Urban Blossom

This is an entry into the GMTK 2023 Game Jam. The theme was "Roles Reversed". In Urban Blossom, you play a city builder in reverse. By using nature tiles from your deck, you can reclaim urban land. Use your cards efficiently to remove entire cities!

The goal of the game is to build a beautiful sprawling world, free of any man-made structures. Unlike a normal city builder, the game starts with an already fully built (randomly generated) city. Instead of placing new buildings, you place natural features to overcome the urban environment.

Known Issues

This game was made in 48 hours, and it shows! Here are a few problems that we're aware of:

• The first time you hit play, the game will hang for a while (5-10+ seconds). It will eventually load.
• Rarely, a different tile is placed than what is shown on top of deck.
• Rarely, duplicate grass tiles will replace a city tile. This doesn't affect gameplay.
• If you remove all city tiles, the game doesn't end. Please pat yourself on the back to compensate.
• The score isn't updated. If things are getting greener, you're doing good.
• The game is balanced towards being very easy. We wanted a casual experience, but would make it a bit tougher if we could do it again.

How to play

Left-click on a grass tile to place the card that is currently at the top of your deck. If enough nature tiles surround an urban tile it will be converted into grassland.

Different nature tiles interact with each other. For example, group together forest tiles to increase their power, place mountain tiles next to forests for a bonus, and keep desert tiles away from forests or water sources.

You have a limited number of tiles in your deck. But as you remove city tiles from the world, you will gain more tiles

You win the game if you remove all city tiles from the world.

You lose the game if you run out of cards, or are unable to place any new tiles.
